Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) Internship
1 month or 3 monthsA project-driven internship for the fastest-growing role in tech: the Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE): the customer-facing engineer who embeds with a client, turns their messiest problems into working software, and ships it into their environment. Pioneered at Palantir and now everywhere from OpenAI to early-stage startups, the FDE blends software engineering, data integration, and solutions consulting. Month 1 builds the core toolkit: the FDE role and customer discovery, third-party API integration, data wrangling with SQL and pandas, and rapid prototyping, ending in a customer onboarding tool, OnboardFlow. Month 3 goes deep: solutions architecture and data modeling, deploying into customer environments, observability and support, and security/compliance, finishing with a deployed, customer-facing capstone, FieldOps. Every project is a portfolio repo.

Software Development Engineer (SDE) Internship
1 month or 3 monthsA project-driven, full-stack software engineering internship. Build real, named products in TypeScript from day one while sharpening the problem-solving (data structures & algorithms) that interviews demand. Month 1 covers the foundations (Git workflow, DSA, a Node/Express + PostgreSQL backend, and a React frontend) and ends with a full-stack capstone, DevPulse. Month 3 goes deep: authentication, system-design fundamentals, real-time features, automated testing, CI/CD, cloud deployment, and a production-grade capstone, LaunchPad. Every project is a GitHub repo for your portfolio.

Frontend Developer Internship
1 month or 3 monthsA hands-on frontend internship. Month 1 builds rock-solid HTML, CSS, and JavaScript: semantic markup, the box model, Flexbox/Grid, responsive design, and DOM interactivity. Month 3 adds modern JavaScript (ES6+, async/fetch), React.js (components, props, state, hooks), and Tailwind CSS, finishing with a deployed React + Tailwind capstone. Every build is submitted via GitHub or CodePen and reviewed by a mentor.

Generative AI Engineering Internship
1 month or 3 monthsA project-driven Generative AI internship. Start by calling LLM APIs, writing reliable prompts, and getting structured output; move into embeddings, semantic search, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). Month 3 goes deep: production RAG with evaluation, tool-using agents, fine-tuning/LoRA, multimodal apps, safety and guardrails, and serving, finishing with a deployed full-stack AI capstone. Every project ships with its own evaluation harness and lands in your GitHub portfolio.

Backend Development Internship
1 month or 3 monthsA project-driven backend internship. Build real REST APIs from day one using Node.js and Express, then back them with PostgreSQL through Prisma. The first month covers the foundations (HTTP, routing, middleware, databases, and clean project structure) with three ship-able projects. Month 3 goes deep: JWT authentication, file uploads, pagination, caching, real-time WebSockets, automated testing, Docker, and a production-grade capstone API. Every project is a GitHub repo for your portfolio.

Rust Programming Internship
1 month or 3 monthsA hands-on, code-first Rust internship. Start with Cargo and core syntax, then master ownership, borrowing, structs/enums, and pattern matching. Month 3 adds generics, traits, lifetimes, iterators/closures, smart pointers, and fearless concurrency, finishing with a tested, multi-module capstone. Most work is auto-graded coding exercises plus real Cargo projects.

1-Month vs 3-Month Internship
Both plans are fully online and use the same tracks. The 3-month plan goes further into each topic, adds more projects and includes weekly mentor sessions.
| Plan | Projects | Quizzes | Support | Certificate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 month | 5 to 6 project tasks | 5 quizzes | Community and ticket support | Foundational internship certificate |
| 3 months | 7 to 8 project tasks | 10 quizzes | Weekly mentor sessions | Advanced internship certificate |
Choosing an Internship
- Which online internship is best for beginners?
- Frontend is the usual first pick. It needs no prior coding and you see your work in the browser from the first task. Backend suits students who already know one programming language.
- Which internship should a computer science student pick?
- Pick the role you want to apply for next. SDE builds the data structures and system basics most product companies test, Backend and Frontend map to web developer roles, and GenAI covers building with large language models.
- How long are the internships?
- Every track runs for 1 month or 3 months, chosen when you enrol. You can work at your own pace inside that window.
- Do I get an offer letter?
- Yes. Once you enrol, you can download an offer letter for your track from your dashboard. The certificate comes after you complete every task and pass the quizzes.
- Can I do more than one internship?
- Yes. You can enrol in tracks one at a time, or take several together through an internship bundle, which costs less than buying them separately.
Still deciding? The DevIt blog covers how to pick an internship, what to build and how to talk about it in interviews.
