A project-driven internship for the fastest-growing role in tech: the Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) — the customer-facing engineer who embeds with a client, turns their messiest problems into working software, and ships it into their environment. Pioneered at Palantir and now everywhere from OpenAI to early-stage startups, the FDE blends software engineering, data integration, and solutions consulting. Month 1 builds the core toolkit: the FDE role and customer discovery, third-party API integration, data wrangling with SQL and pandas, and rapid prototyping — ending in a customer onboarding tool, OnboardFlow. Month 3 goes deep: solutions architecture and data modeling, deploying into customer environments, observability and support, and security/compliance — finishing with a deployed, customer-facing capstone, FieldOps. Every project is a portfolio repo.
